CINCINNATI SHAKESPEARE COMPANY 2017-2018 SEASON AUDITIONS
The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is excited to announce auditions for the 2017-2018 season- the inaugural season in our brand new facility on Over-the-Rhine. The auditions will be held at our current location, 719 Race St in downtown Cincinnati on the following dates:
Saturday February 18th 10:00pm – 5:00pm
Sunday February 19th 10:00pm – 5:00pm
GUEST ARTIST (May be Equity or Non-Equity) This is an artist brought in for a specific production or sometimes multiple productions. Contract and pay scale varies dependent on union status, size of role, etc.
*PLEASE NOTE THESE AUDITIONS ARE FOR PERFORMERS AGED 18 AND OLDER. Should any production require younger performers, separate auditions will be held at a later date.
INTERN COMPANY (Must be Non-Equity) Six actors are needed for the intern Company. This is a season long internship- a ten month contract running from July to May. There is a weekly stipend of $200 and housing is provided. CSC Internship includes:
Tour: Each Intern will be cast in multiple roles in up to six productions that tour to area parks, schools and community centers.
Mainstage Understudy: Intern will have the opportunity to learn from professional actors as he/she understudies roles in a minimum of two mainstage productions.
Collaborative Projects: From time to time CSC will collaborate with other organizations, such as the Symphony, Ballet or others. Interns may have the opportunity to participate in these collaborations.
Teaching Opportunities: Intern will be designated as a Teaching Artist for our educational outreach programs, leading in-school workshops and residencies.
Training: Intern will receive advanced training in both classical performance techniques and theatre education techniques. Throughout the season, intern will attend workshops and masterclasses led both by CSC personnel and guest teaching artists from regional, national, and international organizations.
EMC Points: EMC points are available at a rate of one point per week. Intern will only accumulate points for those mainstage productions in which he or she understudies.
Administrative and Production Assignments: The Intern will engage in a rotation of duties intended to provide well rounded experience and instruction, including, but not limited to:
- Shop hours
- Participation in strike for all productions
- Box Office hours
- Front of House Management
- Office Duties in Marketing, Development, and Production
- Education Sales
Please prepare two contrasting classical pieces, at least one of them Shakespeare. The combined pieces should not exceed 3 minutes; and if you have any additional classical pieces in your repertoire, it couldn’t hurt to dust them off, as you may be given an opportunity to perform them. Those auditioning for an Intern Company position may also have a very brief interview with the Education Director.

Once you’ve scheduled an audition (see below), please submit a current Headshot/Resume. Those applying for an Intern Company position, should also submit a COVER LETTER and 3 REFERENCES with contact information. The cover letter should include the following:
- Why you are interested in CSC
- Your interest in/experience with education

AN EXCITING BONUS!
If you are interested in seeing CSC’s production of RICHARD III (which will be running during the time of the auditions), we are offering auditioners a discounted ticket. Once you’ve scheduled your audition, simply contact the box office (513-381-BARD). Mention your name and that you’re an auditioner, and we’ll be set you up with a ticket at the $12 student rush price.
I’m interested in becoming a part of the Resident Ensemble. What’s the process?
Members of the Resident Ensemble usually either graduate up from the Intern Company, or are Guest Artists who we have worked with a number of times. This gives both parties a chance to get to know each other before committing to a more long-term arrangement- in other words, go on few dates before getting hitched.
If I am auditioning for the Intern Company but don’t get in, can I still be considered for Guest Artist work?
Absolutely. Just let us know at the audition that you’d be interested in Guest Artist work as well.
What is the Intern Company housing like?
It’s a large Victorian style house located in East Walnut Hills, about a 5 minute drive from the theatre. Interns will all have their own rooms, there and share bathrooms, kitchen, and common space.
Should I bring physical copies of my Headshot/Resume to the audition?
While we are trying to go all digital, we occasionally experience some glitches (hard to believe, I know), so it couldn’t hurt to bring along a couple of physical copies.
Do you accept video auditions?
We’re happy to take a look at video submissions, though we will almost always want to see an actor in person before casting them. Send a link or file to firstname.lastname@example.org
