Acting Classes at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company
NEW!  Groundlings North
(9th-12th Grade)

What is it?

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Cincinnati’s Stage for the Classics, is proud to present it’s extremely popular downtown acting program, the Groundlings, at the West Chester Activity Center! This drama and acting course, titled “Groundlings North” will provide 9th-12th grade high school students with the opportunity to learn more about the art of theatre. Students will study classical performance techniques from a professional Shakespearean actor & teaching artist while studying Shakespeare and his texts. This 10-week acting-intensive program will include training in acting methods, improvisation, stage combat, text analysis, instruction in voice and movement and more! This class will culminate in a showcase performance in May. All skill levels are welcome!

How do I register?

Contact the West Chester Activity Center at 513-779-7360. Please provide your student’s name, email and phone number. Cincinnati Shakespeare Company will then contact you to complete the registration.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND HOW DO I PAY?

The entire session (10 classes/performances, 2.5 hours/each) costs $375.  You may divide the cost into two payments.

Groundlings
(10th-12th Grade)

What is it?

The Groundlings program was developed to provide 10th- to 12th-grade students the opportunity to learn performance techniques from professional actors while studying Shakespeare and his texts. This 20-week acting-intensive program includes acting method training, text analysis, and instruction in voice and movement. The students are mentored by Artistic Associates Jeremy Dubin and Sara Clark. 

Instruction takes place at CSC’s theatre on Race Street as the group prepares for a final performance at the conclusion of the class in April.  Space is limited, so participants are encouraged to register soon.

If this is your first year in Groundlings, you will need to audition for the program. Even if you have attended Groundlings JR or Summer Camp in the past YOU MUST AUDITION.  Auditions have been completed.

Registration for the 2011-2012 year for the downtown Groundlngs class is FULL.  Students may not join Groundlings in the middle of the year.  Please consider joining our new class in West Chester, OH- info above.  Be sure to sign up for the email list to make sure you receive information about all of our programs including Shakespeare Summer Camp.  Make sure you check the box "Acting Classes and Camps for Students"!


HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND HOW DO I PAY?

Pay Online here!  The entire school year of 20 sessions (10 per semester) is $725.  You may divide your payments into two payments of $362.50/per semester, although a full-year commitment from the student is required. Instructions on how to pay are provided during the online registration process.

Groundlings Jr
(7th-9th grade)

What is it?

Based on our popular high school ensemble, Groundlings, Groundlings Jr was developed to provide 7th- to 9th-grade students with the chance to learn about the world of theatre from professional actors. This 10-week program includes acting, text analysis, and instruction in voice and movement.  There is a Fall and Spring session available each year.  Students are encouraged to participate in one or both!  The 2011-2012 session will be taught by Resident Ensemble Member Miranda McGee. Instruction takes place at CSC’s theatre on Race Street.  Space is limited, so participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible in late summer 2011.  No Audition is required to join Groundlings Jr.

Bard Academy- Professional Development

What is it?

Bard Academy provides classes on acting, Shakespeare, and literature for adult learners and teachers of all ages and at all levels.  Through our classes you will learn to conquer your Shakes"fear" about teaching Shakespeare in your school and also learn new topics and fresh ideas that you can take back to your classroom.

"Unlocking Shakespeare's Text"

This conversational course is back by popular demand!
Now with a twist- this course hopes to engage teachers and other lifelong learners to help them conquer their "shakes'fear'" and prepare them to teach the bard to their classes! In this casual, comfortable class, learn the keys to unlocking the genius of Shakespeare’s words. You will explore text analysis, character study, and storytelling from the viewpoint of a professional actor and teaching artist, and gain understanding about the journey from the page to the stage. Prepare to illuminate the method in the madness. At registration, let us know which plays you study in your classroom that you'd like us to cover, we want to tailor this class to your needs!
Entire course $100.
This course meets for a total of 12.5 contact hours. A CEU Certificate from the Ohio Department of Education will be signed and provided by CSC at the completion of the course for you to take to your own district's professional development panel for credit.
