Young Adult Classes


Groundlings Jr.
Sundays - 6-8pm
Ages: 7th - 9th Graders
Fee: $275
Instructor: Sara Clark
A program for 7th-9th grade students who are interested in furthering their acting skills and understanding of Shakespeare.  The emphasis of the program will be on learning basic acting skills, working together as an ensemble, and speaking Shakespeare’s text.  Workshops on movement, voice, text analysis, character development, and Shakespearean performance will take place throughout the program.  By working together through theatre games and scene work, actors in the program will experience the excitement of the artistic process.  All actors will participate in a showcase of Shakespearean scenes at the end of the session for their family and friends.
Dates: Sept. 7, 14, 21; Oct. 5, 19, 26; Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23

Groundlings
The Groundlings program was developed to provide 10th- to 12th-grade students with the opportunity to learn performance techniques from professional actors and study Shakespeare and his texts. This 20-week acting-intensive program includes theater workshops, text analysis, and training in both voice and movement. The students are mentored by one of our professional ensemble actors: Jeremy Dubin or Justin McCombs.

    Adult classes

    improv workshop
    Wednesdays - 7-9pm
    Ages: 18 and up.
    Fee: $110
    Instructor: Christopher Guthrie
    A workshop focused on spontaneity and creativity to help the actor learn to effectively use his or her imagination while creating vibrant characters and scenes. Students will focus on basic acting techniques through improv activities and theatre games.

Acting for the Business Professional
Tuesdays - 7-9pm
Ages: 18 and up.
Fee: $110
Instructor: Christopher Guthrie
Use acting techniques to get ahead in the workplace!  This workshop will focus on using your speech and body language to become more persuasive, effective, and confident.  Workshops will focus on relaxation techniques in order to control presentation anxiety, how to gain and hold the attention of an audience, and how to use your speech to express your thoughts in the most effective manner.
Dates: May 13, 20, 27; June 3, 10
