The Rules of the GameGames You Want to Watch,
At Prices You Can Afford
No matter who you are or where you come from, I think we can safely say that we all have one thing in common: being affected by our nation’s current economic woes. Every news broadcast seems to bring more grim facts and hard truths. So when you come to our theater, we want to take you away from a day full of gloom. At Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, we feel as though we have a very important role to play during this crisis—to unabashedly entertain.
With Shakespeare’s romantic comedies The Taming of the Shrew and All’s Well That Ends Well, the passionate relationships of James Goldman's The Lion in Winter and Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband, and the pure froth of W.S. Gilbert’s Engaged!, we are confident we can bring a grin to your face. If your cup of tea is more dramatic fare, you won’t be disappointed either. We'll be bringing you the national premiere of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie in a new adaptation by David French, a dynamite double bill of Samuel Beckett and Eugene O’Neill, and the pulse-pounding excitement of the Bard’s timely Othello. The lineup alone makes us giddy with anticipation.
Our lives are composed of a series of games that people play—political and social, competitive and playful, despicable and even joyous. From contests of will to the game of love, in our sixteenth season we hope to play all of these games. Join us to learn something about the rules we all willingly, or unwillingly, follow.
But—we won’t play games with you! We refuse to raise our prices or lower our standards. In difficult times, it’s more important than ever that we get together as a community not just to work, but to play. If you’re game for a night of great entertainment, come out and play with us—smiles are on the house.
Warmly,
Brian Isaac Phillips
