The CSC Dumb Show

7 p.m. on Thursday Nights**
Length: 15 Minutes

A bit intimidated by Shakespeare’s language? Have a friend or spouse who won't join you at the theatre because they think they won't "get it"? Just want to know more about the play?

Believe it or not, Shakespeare wanted his plays to be understood, and he was not averse to giving a little help along the way. There was a popular device at the time known as the "Dumb Show." Before the play proper would begin, the actors would come out and present a condensed version of the play in pantomime, introducing all the characters and covering all the major plot points and developments. Armed with this knowledge, the audience could relax and much more easily follow the show. In the spirit of this grand tradition, the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is proud to offer "The CSC Dumb Show."

On each Thursday of a show's run, a member of the cast will give a brief pre-show talk, covering plot, characters and interesting historical tidbits- get the who, the what, the when, the where and the wherefore. Have no fear, the CSC Dumb Show is here!

**No dumb show before Thursday Preview Performances. Currently this is only offered for our Shakespeare productions.
