Shakespeare in the Park

Why Give to Our Shakespeare in the Park Fund

Obviously, the summer of 2020 looked a bit different! Even in the midst of a pandemic, our Free Shakespeare in the Park tour still saw over 2,200 people for 22 socially-distanced performances across the region. From public parks to parking lots, backyards to breweries, CSC’s Touring Company was a beacon of hope and possibility in a challenging time. As we look forward to 2021, your gift guarantees the park tour you know and love will be back in full force as soon as it is safe to do so.

Because of you, our FREE Shakespeare in the Park tour can bring quality arts experiences to residents of communities outside of the downtown core. After seeing Shakespeare in the Park, 93% of residents report that their neighborhood was more invigorated and 84% feel more community pride. And in 2019, CSC began offering ASL signed performances of all three shows, breaking down barriers to the arts for audiences of all abilities.

And, did you know – the actors you see in the park tour are the same ones who bring our Education Program to life each school year? Your gift supports them, thus also sustaining CSC’s numerous arts education opportunities that take place all year long. Thanks to your thoughtful donation, CSC is able to fully carry out its mission to bring Shakespeare and the Classics to life for all.

“My daughters went with me. It was their first play. We all loved it and really enjoyed talking to the cast. I had no idea this went on all summer and will make a point to take them to more next year. We can't really afford this type of thing so are so grateful you brought the show to us.” - Shakespeare in the Park Patron

“A Midsummer Night's Dream was hilarious! It made my 13-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter laugh out loud (me too)! Thank you for coming to Portsmouth [Ohio]. This is the third year we have driven from Ashland, KY, for this amazing event! Thank you for giving me the chance to expose my kids to Shakespeare as it should be - on the stage.” - Shakespeare in the Park Patron
